This grant will help Knox continue and expand their programs over the next two years. Specifically, this grant was awarded to help support Knox’s volunteer coordination, urban farming, workforce development and environmental education.

The money will also back the development of three community gardens – one on Hudson Street, one on the Hartford Public High School campus and a third in Frog Hollow near Park Place Towers.

Knox is a well-known entity in Hartford and brings the community together for dozens of events, markets and classes over the course of a year. They also galvanize an impressive group of volunteers, usually 3000-4000 in any given year, to help maintain public gardens and spaces, assist with event staffing and management, and help spread the word of all the available programming Knox has to offer for residents and visitors alike.

They are hoping these funds will allow them to actually do plantings in addition to their maintenance around the city, increase their volunteers each year and allow them to have a more visible impact on their efforts within the city.

We’ve worked with Knox a half dozen or so times over the past couple years providing workshops, attending farmers markets, and as fans for their annual greenhouse parties. We’ve seen the quality and the impact of their organization and can say with confidence this is going to do wonders for the Hartford Community. We congratulate them on this amazing award and can’t wait to see how this empowers them and Hartford over the next two years.
